WHAT
IS XYLITOL?
Xylitol, the key
ingredient in Xlear, is a naturally occurring plant substance with
some rather unusual properties. Scientific studies in Finland have
revealed that xylitol causes many harmful bacteria to lose their ability
to adhere to the nasal membranes where they commonly live. Without
this attachment, infections are usually prevented. Over 90 percent
of all infection-causing bacteria enter through the nose. Bacteria
in the nose cause ear, sinus, and bronchial infections. Pollutants
in the nose cause allergies and asthma. By washing the nasal passages,
we can greatly reduce the number of harmful bacteria and pollutants
entering our body, decreasing infection and irritation.
XYLITOL
AND ANTIBIOTICS Using Xylitol could
be a great way to avoid many of the problems associated with the overuse
of antibiotics. Xylitol works differently than antibiotics, it doesn’t
kill the bacteria, it washes them away. Therefore, bacteria can’t
develop a resistance to xylitol like they do to antibiotics. Both the
World Health Organization and the FDA have given xylitol their safest
ratings as a food additive.
DOCTORS
AND XYLITOL Doctors in Europe have
been using xylitol since the 1970’s. Xlear was developed by Dr.
Lon Jones, a board certified Family Physician. Dr. Jones’ interest
in xylitol began after reading Finnish research regarding the effectiveness
of xylitol chewing gum in reducing the incidence of ear infections.
Knowing that ear infections begin in the nose and not the mouth, Dr.
Jones began his own research by formulating xylitol in a saline solution.
This nasal wash was given to his granddaughter who had frequent ear
infections. After administering xylitol nasal wash, the recurring infections
stopped. After testing it on many of his patients, Dr. Jones discovered
that washing the nose with xylitol aided in the relief of many upper
respiratory problems, including irritations caused by pollutants, allergens
and infections. Remarkably, Xylitol is all natural, not a drug, and
non habit-forming. The World Health Organization and the FDA have given
xylitol their safest ratings for food additives. Babies and small children
can use it without restriction. Recent findings may also prove xylitol
sweetener to be a major improvement in world health by helping to prevent
tooth decay, dry mouth and bad breath. Scientists at Turku University
in Finland have discovered the positive effects of xylitol sweetener
on dental health in Finland since the early 1970’s.
8 grams of Xylitol
has been shown to be effective in the fight against cavities. The
X-Point system provides a guideline for daily product use and helps
you reach the levels of xylitol required to fight cavities and plaque.
With each use of a Spry product, you contribute a measurable number
of X-points toward your daily target of 18 total points...the equivalent
of 8 grams of xylitol.
